Chappell's Iconic Syncs

Songs You've Heard Before!

During WW2, Chappell became prolific in scoring popular theme tunes for public broadcast, including the 'Music While You Work' daytime radio programme with Eric Coats' 'Calling All Workers'. Coats' call to action track was played at the start and the end of the broadcast, cementing it as one of Britain's most recognisable wartime effort pieces.

Chappell didn't stop delivering there, and saw further success with Coat's 'The Sleepy Lagoon', which was chosen to theme 'Desert Island Discs'. Radio 4 has used the song from its first broadcast in 1942 to this very day, proving to be one of Chappell's most loved releases. Click below to explore more iconic theme tunes from Chappell.

Chappell's Chief Composers

Eric Coats aside, Chappell championed many of the top British composers throughout recent history. Cy Payne was prolific in the scoring of many military styled recordings and saw much of his work broadcast across the BBC.

Payne later transitioned into popular culture, even working on Cliff Richard's first record 'At The Top'. Other national favourites include Robert Faron, Vivian Ellis and Charles Williams.

Archives Reimagined

The Chappell Music Library is still getting air time across screens today as shown by this retro collaboration between the National Film & Television School and Jigsaw. This incredible sync demonstrates how relevant the iconic library is in any production needing music from era's past.
